Global Plus Group Brings Joy, Friendship and Service to Soneike High
This winter, Soneike High School once again opened its doors to an international group through the Global Exploration Program. The Global Plus Group from the Netherlands spent a week with us, and what a week it was! Under the passionate leadership of Coach Turner, the exchange program has grown from strength to strength, and this visit proved just how powerful friendship, service, and culture can be when they come together.
The first day was all about welcomes and first impressions. Our visitors were greeted with the cheerful “Welcome to Cape Town” song, followed by dancing, laughter, and the excitement of meeting their Soneike buddies for the very first time. By the end of the day, new friendships were already taking shape. Tuesday was a day of hard work and teamwork. Together, the Soneike and Dutch learners rolled up their sleeves to clean, fix, and paint 120 desks for our school. The energy and dedication on display showed the true spirit of service. On Wednesday, it was time to balance work with fun.
The group headed into Cape Town to experience the Illusion Museum, a place full of surprises and creativity. Later in the day, the learners took part in a shadow shift at Spur, raising funds to support the Soneike group who will be traveling to the Netherlands in January 2026.
Thursday carried a special meaning as the group celebrated Mandela Day in Kalkfontein, where they served the community with a soup kitchen on a rainy day. Despite the weather, the learners embraced the spirit of Ubuntu, proving that kindness and compassion shine brightest when shared. All too quickly, Friday arrived, and it was time for the Global Plus Group to say goodbye as they continued their journey to Stellenbosch.
While their time at Soneike was short, it left a huge impact — fresh desks for our classrooms, support for our community, and memories that will last a lifetime. The Global Exploration Program has become a special tradition at Soneike, and we are proud to see it flourish year after year. A big thank you to Coach Turner for his leadership, to our learners for their enthusiasm, and to our friends from the Netherlands for bringing so much joy and energy to our school.
We can’t wait for January 2026 when our Soneike group travels to the Netherlands to continue this amazing exchange journey.
