From the Desk of the Head of Sports
Dear Soneike High School Community, As we reflect on the events of the second term of 2024, it's evident that it has been a whirlwind of activity, especially in our sporting arena.
Our school's major codes have been in full swing, showcasing the talent, dedication, and hard work of our students. Soccer, Netball, Hockey, Rugby, Drummies, and Chess: This term has seen our sports teams fully immersed in school leagues, demonstrating exceptional skill and determination.
Our soccer teams, topping the tables in their respective categories, has been a beacon of success, with special commendation to our Girls' Soccer team led by Lumeech Kapot and Sherzelle Brown, whose outstanding performances have set them apart for the second consecutive year.
In the world of Drummies, we are proud to announce the induction of over seven of our students into the Western Province team, with three athletes earning spots on the national team. Kudos to Coach Amy and Coach Chantel for their exceptional leadership, guiding our drummies team to new heights as they prepare for the national championships in Pretoria at the end of June.
Chess continues its reign of excellence, maintaining an impressive record with only one loss over the past two years. Our new captain, Elageaux, has been selected to represent the Province, further solidifying our reputation as a powerhouse in this strategic game.
While Hockey and Rugby are in their developmental phases this year, our teams have shown promise and determination. Despite limited opportunities for training and games, our students have displayed resilience and dedication, laying the groundwork for formidable sides in the upcoming years.
Netball has had its share of challenges, with all age groups making it to the playoffs but facing a common hurdle. Our coaches are committed to addressing these obstacles to strengthen our presence next season. Keep an eye on our budding talent in the U14 category, showing immense potential for the future.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the teachers in charge of sports for their unwavering support and hard work, often amidst busy schedules. Your dedication has been instrumental in making this term a resounding success. As we look ahead to the challenges and opportunities of the next term, let us continue to support and encourage our students in their pursuit of excellence, both on and off the field.
