"A Night of Pride, Achievement and New Beginnings"
On Monday, October 14, 2024, Soneike High School marked the end of an era with the Grade 12 Valedictory ceremony, hosted at Bellville HTS. The evening was a testament to the students' hard work and dedication.
The event was beautifully organized, with Grade 11 students Geraldo Luis and Nakane serving as MCs. The program ran from 6 PM to 10 PM and featured a mix of academic and sports awards, inspiring speeches, and performances by the school choir and violinists.
Behind the scenes, the incoming 2025 prefects played a vital role in ensuring the event's success. They selflessly assisted with setting up the hall, serving drinks and food, and handling various tasks to make the evening memorable for the Matric students and their families.
The highlight of the evening was Micaela Witbooi's exceptional achievement, as she received the prestigious Dux Award for the best overall achiever. Her outstanding accomplishment marked the end of a remarkable journey for the Grade 12s.
As part of the media team, we had the chance to sit down with a few of the top achievers. Ashura Aziz, the 2024 Head Girl, shared her secret to balancing academics, extracurricular activities, and personal life. "I only did netball at the beginning of the year, so it was easier because the workload wasn't too heavy yet. I made sure to consolidate my work every day so things didn't pile up and overwhelm me. I always worked at my own pace." When asked for advice for her junior schoolmates, she said, "Don't compare yourself to others. At the end of the day, it's your race. Set small goals, and when you achieve them, you'll feel motivated to keep going."
Obed Itaka, the Head Boy, credited his motivation to achieving his goals and making his parents proud. "There was a lot of pressure and expectations, but I knew I had to minimize distractions and stay focused on my objectives."
The night was not only a celebration of achievements but also a reminder of the dedication and perseverance that brought these students to this point. As we wrap up the year, Ashura's advice rings true: "Work at your own pace, and remember, this is your race." Special congratulations to: - Micaela Witbooi, Dux Award winner
- Wade Hammit, Second-place achiever
- Cameron Africa, Sportsman of the Year
- Robyn Jooste, Sportswoman of the Year.
As we bid farewell to the Grade 12s, we take pride in their exceptional achievements. We wish them all the best for their future endeavors.
